Veilig Thuis (Safe at Home) is the hotline and information centre for matters regarding domestic violence and child abuse. Anyone who is confronted with – or suspects – violence within a relationship of dependence can go to Veilig Thuis for expert advice and support, and/or to report incidents.

Veilig Thuis gives advice and support, intervenes in unsafe situations, and activates people. Veilig Thuis creates opportunities for improving the situation, in this way giving people back their future.

Advice

Would you like advice, or do you yourself and/or someone you know need help? Phone Veilig Thuis at 0800 2000. You can phone this number 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

You will initially hear a recorded message, asking you to give the name of the city or town you live in or that of the person you are phoning for. Then you will be put right through to the Veilig Thuis branch you need. The staff member you talk to will listen to your story attentively, answer your questions and, if necessary, give you advice. You can ask questions or just get something off your chest. The staff member will also help you assess whether professional help is needed.

Dutch language

Perhaps you do not speak Dutch, or find it difficult to express your thoughts clearly in Dutch. If this is the case, it is a good idea to ask someone to help you bridge the language barrier, as the Veilig Thuis staff member can only speak to you in Dutch.

You can phone Veilig Thuis 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 0800 2000.
